I had always assumed that my older sister, Elaine, would be our aging parent’s primary care provider once the time came that they needed our help. In one morning, my life was swept upside down when my sister passed away at the age of 54. Soon after, my mother suffered from a serious heart attack. I was suddenly without a sister and thrust into the position of being the primary family care provider with no framework to process the situation i was in.
Of course, all of our family members and close friends offered condolences and promised to help me in the every day tasks of rehabilitating my mother back to help. After a few days, it became an additional headache to repeatedly explain to everyone the details of what happened and update everyone with my mothers condition.
Until one of my coworkers suggested I create a Care Community for my mother, I felt like I was in over my head.
The iHelp calendar and the private blog in particular have helped me to simplify my role as the family care provider as well as allow my mother to receive messages of love and encouragement. I don't know what we would do without our loved ones to help us through this hard time, and CareFlash has made their support even more valuable.
